Take Action, Helping the People of Maui

Recently, several devastating wildfires erupted on Maui. Fanned by exceptionally high winds of up to 67 miles per hour, one of the fires broke through containment and almost completely destroyed the historic town of Lahaina. The fire burned an estimated 2,170 acres, the equivalent of 3.4 square miles, and damaged or destroyed 2,207 structures, 86% of which were classified as residential.

Lahaina residents were forced to flee for their lives in a matter of hours, seeking refuge in the ocean and even hotel pools. A month after the disaster, 115 people are confirmed dead, with 66 still missing. Relief crews are sweeping the town for chemicals and materials such as batteries, fertilizers, and propane tanks that pose exceptional health risks, a process that could go on for months. In the meantime, the people of Lahaina need help.

So far, residents have not been allowed to return to the town, and the vast majority will not have homes to go back to. About 5,800 survivors are staying in hotels and motels. Donations are desperately needed to help the residents of Lahaina afford their daily needs as they start putting their lives back together.

Information On COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

COVID-19 is a type of coronavirus, which is a small germ (too small to see without a microscope) that can spread and cause illness in people. COVID-19 causes flu-like symptoms such as a dry cough, shortness of breath, fever, and body aches. COVID-19 mostly affects the respiratory system. While most infections are not dangerous, it can cause pneumonia (a serious infection of the lungs) and can be deadly in severe cases.
